Nov 14, 2019 | Canada, Countries, Events

From the 25th until the 29th of November, the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice hosts its 23rd meeting (SBSTTA-23) in Montreal, Canada. The Promote Pollinators secretariat will be present, and hosts both a working session and a Sign-Up session to welcome new members.

About SBSTTA

The SBSTTA is an open-ended intergovernmental scientific advisory body, providing advice relating to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity to the Conference of the Parties and its other subsidiary bodies. As a subsidiary body of the COP, SBSTTA is to report regularly to the COP on all aspects of its work.

Its functions include:

  • providing assessments of the status of biological diversity;
  • providing assessments of the types of measures taken in accordance with the provisions of the Convention;
  • and responding to questions that the COP may put to the body

SBSTTA has met 22 times to date and produced a total of 233 recommendations to the Conference of the Parties, some of which have been endorsed in full by the latter. Parts of other recommendations have also been endorsed, and many others have been taken up in modified form.

On the agenda at SBSTTA-23

On the agenda of SBSTTA-23 are several topics related to the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework of the CBD. In addition, the conference will cover the topics of Biodiversity and Climate Change, Sustainable Wildlife Management, Technical and Scientific Cooperation and more.

Promote Pollinators at SBSTTA-23

During SBSTTA the Promote Pollinators secretariat hosts a members’ meeting, in which, amongst other things, we will discuss progress made by the secretariat and by members, and reflect on our organizational structure and aims for the future. In addition, a Sign-Up session will take place, in which new members are introduced and celebrated.

The Promote Pollinators’ member meeting at SBSTTA-23 is open to our members and by invitation only. At the sign-up meeting new members of Promote Pollinators will be welcomed and give a short presentation on their plans and expectations. The Sign-Up meeting is open to anyone interested. The location will be communicated through the monitors at SBBSTA. A recap of both meetings will be shared on our website shortly after the sessions during SBSTTA-23.

Are you not a member, but present during SBSTTA-23 and interested in Promote Pollinators, feel free to contact us (info@promotepollinators.org). We might be able to meet up and have an explorative conversation on what we can do for each other.
