A brief outlook…
The end of 2018 is rapidly approaching. 2018 was the secretariat’s first year serving the coalition. We met twice with the coalition: in Medellin and Sharm el Sheikh. In this article we look back on a memorable year.
Fruitful meetings
2018 was a year of fruitful meetings. When the coalition came together in Medellin, we discussed the roles and desired outcomes of the coalition, which resulted in an outline of an organizational model. The model has been shared amongst the members, to be discussed at our next meeting in 2019.
In Sharm el Sheikh we had an inspiring meeting with coalition members on developments and the use of data to underpin national strategies. The presentations of this meeting can be found in the recap of the working session.
New members
At both occasions we also warmly welcomed our new members. Colombia, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Bosnia & Herzegovina joined us in Medellin. In Sharm el Sheikh, we welcomed Norway, Sweden, and Estonia. Meanwhile, the secretariat kept you updated on developments through a series of newsletters.
What the future holds…
We want to thank all of our members for their enthusiastic involvement in our coalition and its activities! We are also already looking ahead to next year. At the meeting in Sharm el Sheikh, we proposed a number of actions. The presentation about this can also be found in the recap of our working session there. We will consult our members to hear about their opinion on our proposal. We will table this for discussion at the next meeting of Promote Polinators, which we expect to organize parallel with IPBES (Paris, 29 April-4 May 2019). Several countries have already expressed their interest in joining our coalition, and perhaps we will be able to welcome those countries at that same occasion. Meanwhile, we are looking out for interesting developments on pollination. If you have anything to share with us, please do!
For now, we wish you very happy holidays and a splendid 2019!
